Almost from the moment of initial arrival in Brasil, the art grabs hold, not just in sheer volume to the point of near omnipresence; but in vibrancy and in literal vitality, as in Brasilian Art regularly demonstrates the capacity to move people to the point of actually feeling more alive.
Traveling the country through the years, the realization arrived that art matters culturally in Brasil nationally, not just locally or regionally, and that art permeates the cultural soul of Brasil to the very core.
Continuing to become acquainted with Brasil artistically produced the additional realization that this uniquely artistic country cultivates a lot more talented artists than there exist opportunities to impactfully showcase artwork, and that the phrase “starving artist” in Brasil can involve less cliche and more reality.
But the gamechanger realization involved the discovery that none of the major global art platforms even allow emerging or unconnected artists to upload their artwork (not even for consideration!!), instead embracing the role of gate-keeper over door-opener, strictly requiring pre-authorization from major galleries and select agents.
At first, learning of this universal exclusion of all unconnected artists provoked feelings of equal parts fury and disgust, but in addition to the stench of such blatant creative disenfranchisement, it also produced an aroma of opportunity.
Hence the birth of BrasilianArt.com, a place where:
We universally include ALL Brasilian artists, even the unconnected, even the unpopular, even the unknown, even the unbanked, even the unhoused. ALL means ALL.
Artists need nothing more than art and initiative to participate in this project. We charge no fees to join and no fees to upload art, and we do not require any complicated approval processes or pre-existing connections or credentials, and there are no hidden conditions.
Artists receive 100% of the listed price they enter into our system (BrasilianArt.com of course charges a modest service fee, but that fee does not come out of the artist’s pocket).
We are on a two-fold mission to empower Brasilian Artists and to share the spirit and the joy of Brasilian Art with the world.
